Jessica Laan

Dr. Jessica Laan is originally from Canada and is excited to now call San Diego home. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Melbourne in Australia, where she developed a passion for small-animal medicine, shelter medicine, behaviour, wildlife, and exotic companion animals. During veterinary school, Dr. Jess embraced opportunities to learn from a wide range of veterinary settings. Her clinical experiences took her from small animal hospitals and emergency clinics to shelters, zoos, and wildlife hospitals. These experiences, including placements with the San Diego Humane Society, RSPCA-Good Pet Behaviour, Toronto Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, and Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, helped shape how she cares for animals and supports the families who love them.

Dr. Jess is passionate about preventive medicine, senior pet care, pain management, behaviour, and helping families feel supported as they make decisions for their pets. She values the human-animal bond and enjoys building trusting relationships with both clients and their animals.

When she is not in the clinic, Dr. Jess enjoys spending time with her partner and their senior Chihuahua, Hank. She loves exploring San Diego, going for coastal walks and hikes, trying new coffee spots, and continuing to expand her knowledge in veterinary medicine. On her days off, you may find her visiting the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, or catching a Padres game. She is excited to be part of the Otay Pet Vets team and looks forward to caring for pets and their families in the San Diego community.
